  • Subject: Action Needed: Help Secure the Future of Our Cricket Club!

    Hi everyone,
I need 10 minutes of your time to help protect the future of our club.

A revised planning application for the development next to our ground has been submitted to Bradford Council by Verity & Co (Skipton Properties). Whilst we aren’t opposing the development entirely, the new plans contain critical changes that could seriously threaten our ability to operate.

We need you to voice your concerns regarding two key issues:

    • The Loss of Promised Parking: In the original plans, we were promised a dedicated car park behind the pavilion. This is now missing. With the local pub car park closed to us, and Thwaites Brow Road already struggling with congestion and bus route delays, this parking is essential. Without it, we cannot host cup finals, junior representative games, or community events.
    • Safety & Ball Strike Risks: The proposed road to the west of the pavilion is dangerously close to our boundary. The current plans offer no solutions for protecting pedestrians or vehicles from stray cricket balls. Without proper mitigation (like professional netting or layout changes), the club faces massive liability risks.

      How you can help:
We want this development to be an asset to Long Lee, but it must be done safely and in consultation with the club. As the last remaining sports club in the village, we provide vital free cricket for juniors and a social hub for all.

Please follow the link below and submit your comments in the section Have your say. Focus your objection on the lack of parking and the unaddressed ball-strike safety risks:

Every voice counts. Let’s make sure the council hears us loud and clear.
    Thank you for your support.

If anyone needs a template, I can provide one that you can adapt. Just let me know.

  • Junior Training 9th May Cancelled.

Hi, due to the seniors playing in the Keighley Cup at home this Friday, we have to cancel our junior training.

Please feel free to come up and watch if you fancy a bit of T20 action. The clubhouse will be open to serve refreshments.

  • Junior Cricket Funding

Over the last few months we have been working with the juniors, local Councillor John Lawless and Keighley Town Council on applying for funding to aid with our growing junior training programme.

Tonight Madison was invited to speak before the funding committee at the council. The committee included several council employees, local councillors and the Mayor. She did an amazing job highlighting the need for additional training equipment and free club clothing for our Juniors. She also eloquently explained how we need to improve the scorebox and replace the window. Finally she spoke about how we offer free training to the kids of Long Lee, where there is little for them to do in the village, and how we could encourage more children to enjoy cricket if we had better equipment and facilities.

The committee were so impressed that they voted unanimously in favour of approving a grant of £3000! An amazing result for our club and our juniors.

A massive thanks to Moo, John and all the juniors that put together a paragraph to support the application. Proud of Moo, proud of our club.

Hopefully, he will be available in his full regalia to take part in our event.

We also had local Councillor John Lawless with us. He is also keen on supporting our event.

The main celebrity was this guy, top bloke and top cricketer!

We were very busy all day taking part in a competition to design the next Yorkshire CC T20 shirt. We had loads of entries from both young and old. Hopefully, we have a winner amongst us as there are some great prizes up for grabs.
